Venus retrograde 2026 started on 3 October and lasts until 14 November. It begins in Scorpio and slips back into Libra on the way, which puts two of the zodiac's most relationship-minded signs at the centre of the next six weeks.
Venus goes retrograde far less often than Mercury, roughly once every eighteen months, so when it does, people notice. Exes text. Old desires come back. Spending habits look different in a new light. What is Venus retrograde, really?
Like every retrograde, it is an optical effect. Venus orbits the Sun inside Earth's orbit and faster than we do; when it passes between us and the Sun, it appears to drift backwards against the stars for about six weeks. Nothing about the planet Venus changes, but our view of it does.
In astrology, Venus rules what we love and what we value: relationships, attraction, beauty, pleasure and money. A retrograde turns those themes inward. Instead of reaching for something new, we revisit what we already have, or once had.
Scorpio, then Libra: two kinds of love
This retrograde has an unusual shape because it crosses a sign boundary.
In Scorpio (3 to 25 October), Venus works with intensity, loyalty and what is not said. Expect questions like: Who do I truly trust? What am I holding on to out of fear? Where is money tangled up with someone else's? Jealousy and attachment can surface, so can deep honesty.
In Libra (25 October to 14 November), the mood moves to balance, fairness and partnership agreements. The question becomes: Is this relationship fair? Am I giving more than I get? What would a better arrangement look like?

Love during Venus retrograde
Some patterns come up again and again during these periods:
- The return of the ex. Old partners reappear, in person or in your thoughts. Sometimes it is closure, occasionally it is a real second chance. Take your time before deciding which.
- Re-evaluating a current relationship. Not breaking up because the sky says so, but noticing what works and what does not.
- Less appetite for brand-new romance. First dates are fine; big commitments can wait until after 14 November, when you see more clearly.

Money during Venus retrograde
Venus also governs what we value in the material sense.
- Review subscriptions and recurring costs. Retrogrades are good at showing what you no longer use.
- Delay luxury purchases if they are impulse buys. If you still want it in December, it was not an impulse.
- Revisit your prices if you sell anything. Libra asks whether the exchange is fair, in both directions.
- Sort out shared money. Scorpio's part of the retrograde highlights joint accounts, debts and agreements.
Things to avoid, gently
The traditional advice is to avoid major cosmetic changes, weddings and big new financial commitments during Venus retrograde. Treat that as a preference, not a rule. If your wedding date is set, it is set. Just give decisions a little more time than usual.
The eight-year echo
Venus repeats its retrograde pattern every eight years almost to the day. The last Venus retrograde in Scorpio and Libra ran from 5 October to 16 November 2018. Look back at what was happening in your relationships and finances then. Many people find the same story picking up where it left off.
Mercury is retrograde too
From 24 October to 13 November, Mercury is also retrograde in Scorpio. For about three weeks both planets of communication and connection move backwards together. Often, in some form: a message, a memory, a chance meeting. The retrograde highlights unfinished business. Whether it becomes a second chance or simply closure is up to you, and it is usually wiser to decide after 14 November.
Is it bad to start a relationship during Venus retrograde?
No. Meeting someone is not the problem; rushing is. Let it develop at its own pace and look again once Venus is direct.
After the retrograde
Venus stations direct on 14 November and clears its shadow on 15 December. The weeks after the station are the time to act on what you learned: commit, end, renegotiate or simply appreciate. The next Venus retrograde will not come until May 2028, in Gemini.
