How it works

One date, one number.

The life path number is the most widely used number in modern numerology. It comes only from your date of birth, so it never changes.

The three-part method

We reduce the month, the day and the year on their own, by adding their digits until one digit is left, then add the three results and reduce once more. 15 March 1990: month 3, day 1 + 5 = 6, year 1 + 9 + 9 + 0 = 19 → 10 → 1. Total 3 + 6 + 1 = 10 → 1.

Master numbers

When 11, 22 or 33 appears along the way, it is kept rather than reduced. These master numbers carry a stronger version of 2, 4 and 6. 29 November 1987: 11 + 11 + 7 = 29 → 11.

Why another site may show a different number

Some numerologists add all eight digits of the date in one go. Most of the time the answer is the same; sometimes a master number appears or disappears. When that happens, this calculator shows both, so you know where the difference comes from.

Plain answers

Before you ask.

How do I calculate my life path number?

Reduce the month, the day and the year of your birth to one digit each (keeping 11, 22 and 33), add the three and reduce the total. Enter your birth date above and the calculator shows every step.

What are master numbers 11, 22 and 33?

Numbers that are not reduced further when they appear. They are read as more intense versions of 2, 4 and 6: a bigger task, and more pressure that comes with it.

Why do calculators give different results?

There are two common methods. The three-part method (used here) reduces month, day and year separately; the other adds every digit at once. They usually agree, but master numbers can differ. The calculator shows both when they do.

Which life path number is the rarest?

Master number 33, because the date has to add up in a very particular way. The single-digit numbers are spread fairly evenly.

Can my life path number change?

No. Your birth date stays the same, so does your number. What changes is how you live it.

Do I need my birth time?

No. Only the date is used. For your birth chart you do need the time and place, which the free birth chart asks for.
